Pardon My Flowing Thoughts

ARTICLE BY BLAIR FORTSON

Pardon My Flowing Thoughts is SALT’s take on political and socio-economic issues in our City, our State, our Country, and our World. Too many people our age are ignorant to the political and social factors that affect us as citizens of this global economy. As a form of media it is SALT’s responsibility to help educate and inform its readers on these issues in an effort to better stimulate political, social, and economic awareness.

“We are the 99%!” Sound familiar to any of you?  For those of you who have not kept up with the Occupy Wall Street Movement it is a campaign against social and economic inequality. We are the 99% refers to the rest of America, the percentage that is not the wealthy 1% of the country. Occupy Wall Street has gotten celebrity support from Lupe Fiasco, Rage against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Radiohead, and Roseanne. Even wealthy people associated with the 1% have taken up the cause by saying “I am the 1%. I stand with the 99%.” Demonstrators of the Occupy Wall Street Movement have been standing their ground by taking up residence on Wall Street and causing things to slow or halt since September 17th. The occupy movement has gotten so popular that over 900 different cities in the world have modeled a program after it, including our very own Atlanta.

The Occupy Atlanta movement has grabbed the attention of Atlanta residents all over. Demonstrators have taken up residence at places like the MLK Site, Woodruff Park, and the Peachtree-Pine Homeless Center. Countless arrests have been made and the protesting scene is still little more than amazing. Believe in the cause? Get involved! Be the difference.

It’s time the world has gotten a movement that catches the attention of the masses. Politicians, movie stars, musicians, and common people alike are tuning in to the Occupy Movement. Have you? This is Blair Fortson, and remember to Pardon My Flowing Thoughts.
