Spill The Salt , Shame The Devil PT. IV

POST BY JERALD BUTLER

An anonymous individual stated, “If you wanna hide something from black people, put it in a book”.  Is this true? Has it really gotten to the point where reading is no longer fundamental? Has it ever been for blacks? We’re aware that many of our young people, especially males, continue to struggle in the arena of education.  If we’re aware of this continuous decline, why are the statistics relevant?  The world is a totem pole. We have the resources, the power, and the opportunity. Why are we still at the bottom? Spill it.

[NOTE from Jerald: Typically, I'll write the post, add it to the blog, and allow readers to go at it. However, This is an issue I feel strongly about. If I said that I love to read, I would be lying. True enough we're inclined to read what fascinates us, but what about reading for enlightenment? What about reading for your benefit? whether the topic is politics or health, why aren't we reading about things that matter? Our race falls short in so many ways and in so many different aspects of life because of our neglect of golden pages between unappealing covers. The neglect to read beyond just a tweet or a text, is self-imposed ignorance. Not only is it destructive to us now, it's disloyal to our ancestors and a disservice to our rising generations. I'll do better. Can WE do better?]
